The authorities featured in the official presentation of the event, which will be held on 3, 4 and 5 November in its unique format on foot and by mountain bike. Famous athletes such as Miguel Heras, Oihana Kortazar, Aritz Egea, Pablo Villa, Oliver Avilés and Ismael Ventura are already in Menorca, eager to begin a three-stage contest that will take them on tour around the entire island.

The ninth edition of the ARTIEM Epic Camí de Cavalls 360º Menorca officially began this morning with a presentation for the media. The authorities fired the virtual starting pistol to kick off a competition involving 360 athletes this year, including top names in the MTB Epic 360º (cycling), TrailRun Epic 360º (foot) and Experience 360º (foot) races. They will experience an epic adventure that will take them around the entire perimeter of the island in three stages, from Friday, 3 November to Sunday, 5 November.

The presentation was held in the event tent set up in front of the official hotel, ARTIEM Audax de Cala Galdana. Joan Pons, the sports councillor of Menorca Island Council; Estefanía Quintana, the councillor for Education, Street Cleaning, Cooperation and Equality of Ciutadella City Council; Pepe Díaz, the CEO of ARTIEM Hotels; and both event organisers, Joan Febrer and Clara Fullana, all spoke at the presentation.

They all wanted to stress the importance of a competition that helps to position Menorca as a sports tourism destination and to diversify away from seasonal tourism, letting the participants discover Menorca at its most authentic in the off-season. Joan Pons said that this is why the ARTIEM Epic Camí de Cavalls 360º Menorca “has and will continue to have the support of the Fundació Foment del Turisme de Menorca, since it strengthens the three vital pillars of culture, sport and the economy”.

Joan Febrer and Clara Fullana spoke about the spirit of this sporting event, which puts the athletes’ experience ahead of the competitive aspect. “The participants start out as strangers on the first day, become friends by the second day and feel like one big family on the third day”,  Fullana said.  Joan Febrer pointed out that the event’s sporting level has moved up this year, making Menorca the capital of trail running and mountain biking during these days thanks to Miguel Heras, Oihana Kortazar, Aritz Egea, Pablo Villa, Oliver Avilés, Ismael Ventura and others.

Menorca at its most authentic

The route of the ARTIEM Epic Camí de Cavalls 360º Menorca 2023 that the participants will encounter is marked by continuous, short and explosive rises and falls and a terrain of high technical difficulty dominated by stones. Of course, when they can lift their gaze from the ground, they will be able to take in the island’s wonderful landscapes at one of the best times of the year for outdoor activities.

The itinerary will be the same one that premiered in the 2022 edition. The most striking new development this year will be the debut of the 1Day version, which allows participation in only one of the three stages of the competition so that more athletes can enjoy the Epic experience. The 1Day version will be available for stage 2, on Saturday, 4 November, and only for teams of two members in any of the three types of races.

According to weather forecasts, the temperature will be ideal, with a maximum of around 20º C during the three-day competition. Of course, the participants will have to deal with wind blowing constantly in all three stages, including some heavy gusts. In the first stage, on Friday, 3 November, there could be some showers.

The ARTIEM Epic Camí de Cavalls 360º 2022 is an event sponsored by the Fundació Foment del Turisme de Menorca, with the cooperation of the Spanish government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU and the government of the Balearic Islands’ Tourism Strategy Agency.
